Alkalinity
Alkalinity is synonymous with KH in the aquarium context. Indicates the buffer capacity of the water against pH variations.
Detailed explanation
In technical language alkalinity and KH are not exactly the same thing. Alkalinity measures all anions capable of neutralizing acids (carbonates, bicarbonates, borates, hydroxides). The KH measures only carbonates and bicarbonates. In aquarium practice the two terms are used synonymously because the difference is negligible.
In ICP laboratories you will find the value expressed as alkalinity in meq/L. To convert it to dKH multiply by 2.8. For example 3.0 meq/L = 8.4 dKH.
