Caridina and Neocaridina shrimps

Two kinds of beloved freshwater dwarf shrimp. The Neocaridina are easy, the Caridina more demanding but spectacular.

Detailed explanation

Neocaridina davidi are the easiest: Cherry Red, Fire Red, Blue Dream, Blue Velvet. They tolerate pH 6.5-8.0, GH 6-15, temperature 18-28 degrees.

Caridina (Crystal Red, Crystal Black, Taiwan Bee) require soft water: pH 5.5-6.5, GH 4-6, TDS 100-150. The active substrate is almost mandatory.

Grading is based on colour coverage. Nutrition includes dry leaves, specific food, natural biofilm.

The enemies of shrimp are: copper (lethal in trace amounts), predatory fish, sudden water changes, insecticides.

A dedicated aquarium (shrimp tank) is the best choice: 20-30 litres with sponge filter, plants, moss.
