Echinodorus (Amazon Sword) are the most iconic tropical freshwater plants. E. bleheri and E. amazonicus are the most common.
They grow large: an adult E. bleheri can reach 40-50 cm in height and width. They should be positioned as a central or background plant.
They are substrate plants: the massive roots absorb nutrients from the bottom. Root tabs each 2-3 months are essential.
They do not require CO2 but benefit from it. They tolerate a wide range of light. The selected varieties (Ozelot, Red Flame) have spotted or reddish leaves.
They reproduce by aerial stolons: a stem emerges from the mother plant, producing seedlings along the way, which root by touching the substrate.
