The Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is probably the most popular aquarium fish in the world. Originally from Venezuela and Trinidad.

The males are small (3-4 cm) and very colourful. Females are larger (5-6 cm) and less colourful.

Ideal parameters: pH 7.0-8.0, GH 10-25, temperature 22-28 degrees. They tolerate a very wide range.

Reproduction is constant: 20-50 fry each 4 weeks. Show guppy varieties have huge tails and incredible colours.

Ideal companions are peaceful fish of similar size: Corydoras, Neon, Rasbore.

The most common diseases are ictio, columnar and fin rot. Prevention is clean water and varied nutrition.
