Invertebrates are the heart of a reef aquarium. Corals (SPS, LPS, soft) are the protagonists but the ecosystem includes dozens of other organisms.
Lysmata shrimp (cleaner shrimp) clean fish from parasites. Lysmata amboinensis are the most widespread. Thor amboinensis (sexy shrimp) live in symbiosis with anemones.
Bivalves (Tridacna, the giant clams) have zooxanthellae like corals and require intense light. They are spectacular with their colourful coats.
Invertebrates are generally more sensitive to water quality than fish. Copper is lethal to almost all invertebrates even in minimal traces.
