Angelfish (Pterophyllum)
South American cichlid with an elegant and majestic shape. The king of the tropical community aquarium.
Detailed explanation
The Scalare is the most popular tropical freshwater cichlid. The aquarium must be at least 45-50 cm high. Minimum volume 150-200 litres for a pair.
Ideal parameters: pH 6.0-7.5, GH 3-10, temperature 26-30 degrees. They are territorial when breeding.
Reproduction occurs on vertical surfaces: broad leaves, glass. The pair cleans the surface and lays hundreds of eggs.
Selected varieties include: Marble, Koi, Zebra, Platinum, Black, Veil. The wild Scalare is silver with black bands.
Pterophyllum altum is the largest and most demanding wild species: it requires pH 4.5-6.0.
