Wavemaker (wave generator)
Device that creates a wave movement in the aquarium simulating natural marine conditions. Different from traditional powerheads.
Detailed explanation
Wavemakers create a wide, slow flow that simulates sea waves, unlike powerheads that create a narrow, concentrated jet.
The Gyre (Maxspect) generate a laminar flow along the entire length of the aquarium. Vortech (EcoTech) create a vortex that expands in the water.
The variable flow is programmable: waves with different periods, pauses, reduced night flow. Wireless controllers (EcoTech Mobius, Maxspect ICV6) allow you to synchronize multiple pumps.
In the reef the movement of the water is as important as the light. SPS corals require variable turbulent flow for gas exchange and nutrient transport.
The nutrient transport mode (strong flow for 10 minutes every 6 hours) lifts debris from the bottom and brings it to the skimmer.
