Wrasse (Labridae)

Colourful and active marine fish. Many species are reef safe and useful for controlling parasites and weeds.

Detailed explanation

Wrasse are a huge family with reef-friendly species. Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus) and Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus) are brightly coloured and reef safe.

Sixline Wrasses (Pseudocheilinus hexataenia) control flatworms and small parasites. Melanurus Wrasse eat pest snails.

Some species need sandy substrate where they bury themselves to sleep. They are jumpers: the aquarium must be covered.
