Arowana
Primitive fish with an elongated and majestic body. The 'freshwater dragon'. Some Asian species are worth thousands of euros.
Detailed explanation
The Arowana is a uniquely shaped surface predator fish. The most widespread species are: Osteoglossum bicirrhosum (Silver Arowana, South American, the most accessible), Scleropages formosus (Asian Arowana, very expensive, CITES protected).
The Silver Arowana grows beyond 100 cm. Requires huge aquariums (1000+ litres, preferably a pond). It is a formidable jumper: the lid must be heavy and secure.
Asian Arowana (Red, Gold, Super Red) is considered a lucky charm in Chinese culture. High quality specimens cost 5000-50000 euros.
The diet is carnivorous: live or dead fish, shrimps, crickets. It is a surface hunter that jumps out of the water to capture prey.
