Hillstream Loaches (Beaufortia, Sewellia, Pseudogastromyzon) live in mountain streams in Southeast Asia.
The flat body and fused ventral fins form a sucker that anchors them to rocks in strong currents. In the aquarium they need intense flow and well-oxygenated water.
Ideal temperature: 18-24 degrees. They do not tolerate heat. The water must be very clean with high oxygen content.
They feed on biofilms and algae that scrape off surfaces. They are peaceful and compatible with other stream fish.
