Ocellaris clownfish

The most widespread clownfish in aquariums, made famous by the film Nemo. Easy, resistant and available in many captive bred varieties.

Detailed explanation

Amphiprion ocellaris is the most captive-bred clownfish. The captive bred varieties are more robust and adapted to life in the aquarium than the wild caught ones.

Selected varieties include: Snowflake, Black Ice, Platinum, Picasso, Naked, DaVinci, Frostbite. Prices vary from 15 euros (classic orange) to hundreds of euros for the designer varieties.

It does not require a host anemone to live: in its absence it adapts to corals (especially Euphyllia), or even to a powerhead or a corner of the aquarium.

It reproduces easily in the aquarium. The eggs are laid on a flat surface near the anemone and cared for by the male.
