Quarantine is even more critical in marine aquariums than in freshwater aquariums. A comprehensive protocol includes observation, therapeutic copper, and praziquantel.
Detailed explanation
The standard protocol: 2 weeks observation, then therapeutic copper to 0.5 ppm for 30 days (Cupramine or Copper Power), then praziquantel for internal parasites.
The marine quarantine aquarium: 80-120 litres, mature sponge filter, heater, PVC for hiding places. No sand. No live rock (they absorb copper).
Copper should be monitored with the Hanna Checker (0.50 ppm +/- 0.05 ppm). Copper is lethal for invertebrates and should only be used in the dedicated aquarium.
